This television uses Digital Light Processing technology developed by Texas Instruments to produce a High Definition picture that is remarkable in its distortion free quality. The native resolution is 1280 x 720 which supports 480p/720p/1090i digital formats. DLP televisions are rear projection units that use a small chip containing a large number of micro mirrors that tilt independently to direct light through a rapidly rotating color wheel to the display pixel.

The 56DLX75 is fully loaded with inputs and outputs to handle just about any hookup need. They have HDMI interfaces that allow very simple one cable hookups that eliminate that mass of tangled wires that end up behind most Home Theater systems. The sound system keeps pace with the High Definition picture quality by offering a surround sound 30 watt dual speaker system. The tuner is a 181 channel NTSC style tuner.

Although DLP television sets are not the pencil thin type of physical units like Plasma and LCD televisions, they are still much lighter and less bulky than the older style CRT units. The PT-56DLX75 has a depth of only 17.6 inches, and weighs a mere 86 pounds. It has Panasonic’s V-Chip programming device that allows the owner to block objectionable programming with the use of a four digit code that they supply themselves.

It is important to note that Panasonic has focused more attention on its line of Plasma and LCD televisions than on the DLP. There were only two models available in 2005, and only three new ones in 2006. This fact should not really impact your decision when evaluating this model, however, because although they did not produce DLPs in a wide variety of sizes, this one and the 61 inch model that is very similar to it are stylish, priced competitively, and are technically at a par with any other brand.
