This is a very stylish monster with a 61 inch screen that uses Digital Light Processing, or DLP technology. This involves the use of a small chip with thousands of small mirrors that tilt individually directing light through a rotating color wheel to fire the pixels on the display screen. The native resolution is 1280 x 720 which supports 480p/720p progressive scan, and 1080i formats.
The 61DLX75 not only has a very large screen and an excellent picture quality, but also is supported by Panasonic’s high tech array of features. These include a dual speaker 30 watt surround sound system, and a complete array of front and back input and output connections. The main connection comes from the HDMI interface plug which allows a very simple one cable connection to your Home Theater system. The unit also has the ability to connect with your personal computer. There is a 181 channel NTSC tuner. A combination filter known as a 3D-y/c digital comb filter also contributions to the picture accuracy. Panasonic’s V-chip Programming control chip is included also, and allows the blocking of offensive programming by the use of a parental lockout code.
DLP television with its rear projection set up is not the super thin television that one sees with Plasma and LCD televisions, but the unit still is a vast improvement over the CRT televisions of the past. The 61DLX75 has a mere 19 inches of depth, and weighs only 92.6 pounds. The main reason you would have for taking a close look at this model is the sheer size of the 61 inch screen, and the 16:9 aspect ratio. This is as close as you can come to a theater in your home.
