If you are doing comparison shopping on LCD televisions, it is helpful to have an idea of the meaning of the model numbers. The 4692 number tells you that this unit has a 46 inch viewing screen, and the 92 describes the special feature packaging. This is not the top of the line package. It does not handle 1080p progressive scan resolution, and the contrast ratio is down a bit from the 4696D at 5,000:1. If you check out the specs of the various models, you will see that the changes from package to package are minor, and many features remain the same.
For example, the 4692D has the same TruSurround XT surround sound speakers hidden in the bottom of the unit. Samsung is quite proud of its side mounted A/V ports and they are very handy because the depth of the unit is only 5.5 inches. The very thin profile makes it easy to place, and the 178 degree viewing angle aids in placement within the viewing area as well. The unit is VESA compatible, which means it can be hung from the wall, but also comes with a swivel stand.
The Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp and Optimized Game Mode features are included also. In the end, the difference in picture quality in this model would only be detectable to the most discriminating consumer, and so the price difference might be the best way to evaluate this model compared to the 4296D. One thing is for sure, the picture quality will not disappoint you either way you decide.
