There are really a lot to be said about LCD televisions. The viewing angle is impressive compared to other formats, and the S4696D has a 178 degree viewing angle. Another is just the outright clarity of the picture reproduction. This unit has a 6000:1 contrast ratio, and Samsung’s Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. There is also a 10 bit processor that Samsung says can produce 12.8 billion brilliant colors. The 8ms response time is very fast, and that helps with action pictures and sporting events. It can handle 1080p resolution which makes it capable of handling any picture signal that it likely to be sent its way in the near future.

Another good thing about the LCD is its extremely slim profile. The S4696D is only 4.2” and is VESA compatible which means you can hang it right on the wall. Samsung likes side A/V ports, and the Composite Video input is side mounted along with a headphone jack. The rest is of the A/V array is on the back, and although there is no HDMI interface, the unit is completely PC compatible, and has Optimized Game Mode. The sound is provided by SRS Resound XT, and the speakers are hidden in the bottom to keep to the slim functional theme.

The weight is a mere 93.9 pounds which is quite light considering the 46” viewing screen. The 96D series represents Samsungs fully loaded package and this one is the middle of the series screen size offerings.
