The Samsung S5797D is a whole lot of television. It starts with a 57 inch screen with Home theater dimensions and a slim profile that is less than six inches in depth. The contrast ratio is 4,000:1 which is lower than the smaller screened Samsung LCD models and the difference in color contrast involving dark and light scenes is noticeable if you are looking for it. The sheer size coupled with DNle technology, which is a Samsung exclusive, and the 178 viewing angle combine to make the picture so crisp and distortion free that the slight contrast drop does not bother most people.
This one is a little too large for hanging on the wall and is not an ideal choice for game play either although it is PC compatible. The TruSurround XT surround sound system is a bit of an upgrade to match the overall larger size. There are two 15 watt speakers. One of the most exciting features of this model is the presence of 2 HDMI interface connections. This advanced A/V option allows you to connect several peripherals to the unit with only one wire reducing the clutter behind most Home Theaters. If you do not go with the HDMI, there are all the normal A/V options, but there are no side ports that are common on other Samsung models.
