At this time, Samsung gives us two choices when we are looking at 50 inch screen Plasma Televisions. The S5033 is the stripped down version although the only thing that seems to be missing here from the top of the line model is Samsung’s FilterBright Plus system. This is a color and picture enhancing technology that is included on most of Samsung’s other Plasma models. The important thing here might be just how much of a savings in cost are you getting for giving up this feature. If it is substantial, this model might be a good choice because it is packed with most of Samsung’s other features. It has 10,000:1 contrast ratio, and uses the exclusive DNle technology and 13 bit processing to produce billions of colors and eliminate much of the distortion problems of large screen televisions. There is even an Auto Pixel Shift feature that moves the pixel array very slightly to counter the burn in effects of still pictures and increase the overall life of the unit.
The model is packaged in the very attractive and modern Truewide design style which hides its two SR5 Surround Sound speakers, and is ultra thin. Tuning is done via an ATSC/NTSC 181 channel built in tuner. The connection array features rear and side A/V inputs and outputs including 2 HDMI interface ports. Although there is a RGA PC input port included, the USB side port is not included on this model. The depth of this unit is under 4 inches, and the weight a bit less than 100 pounds. All and all, this is a unit that demands a close look at price if you are going to compare it with Samsung’s other 50 inch model. The truth is that you are not giving up very much here, and the price comparison might be the most important comparison that you can make.
