It is interesting to note that Samsung does not list native resolution or pixel count on its advertising or even on the model spec sheets. This fact might make you a bit nervous when doing some comparison shopping. You might tend to think that they are not telling us because they are embarrassed by the figures. This is not the case, however, and the proof can be obtained by watching one at a large retailer where similar sized models made by its rivals are placed side by side with it. There is no doubt that the Samsung is using 480p/720p/1080i formats to produce High Definition images from High Definition input signals. It may just be that Samsung does not feel those numbers would mean much to the consumer, and so they encourage you to look at the picture to make your decision and not at the spec sheet.
They do talk about their FilterBright Plus and DNle Technology, but the discussion is once again based more on results. Another item is 13 bit processing which they claim increased the number of potential color combinations from the one billion you get from 10 bit processing to 549 billion. All of this technology, they say, makes their picture quality higher than the competition which again is an invitation to compare side by side in person.
The Samsung Truewide cabinet design with the SR5 Surround Sound speakers built into the unit certainly is an attractive and modern approach. The unit is ultra slim and very light, and finding the right place for it in your home is going to be easy. It is also going to be very easy to connect it to any components of your existing Home Theater system. One nice feature of Samsung’s Plasma units is having input and output A/v ports on the side panel of the unit as well as the rear. Most other units have front ports, and the side port design helps keep the very understated and clean flowing lines of the overall design intact. There is a full array of ports as well, and they are anchored by two HDMI interface ports. There is also a USB and RGA port for connection to a personal computer.
One very nice feature of the HP-S5073 is Power Save. It uses a blue light detector to automatically adjust the brightness level to the ambient light level in the viewing area resulting in a reduction in power consumption during daylight viewing. This 50 inch screen, sleek and thin Plasma television looks and performs well against its competition in just about every area.
