There are two things you notice rather quickly when you review the S6373 Plasma Television by Samsung. The first is the 63 inch screen size and the 16.9 aspect ratio. It is just really big, and very much a Home Theater experience. The second thing you notice is that they do not talk directly of their resolution. From the hints that they give it is fairly certain that it is capable of 480p and 720p progressive scan, and also most likely 1080i, but they do not come right out and say it.
They do talk about the 10,000:1 contrast ratio and their own FilterBright Plus system that produces vivid and lifelike images. They also talk of DNle technology and 13 bit processing both of which contribute to making their picture better than their competitions. The Auto Pixel Shift is another feature that protects the monitor from burn in resulting from still images. The main connection option is the HDMI interface connector that allows you to avoid the tangle of wires behind most Home Theater systems. All of the other types of connections you might need are here as well with some of the input/output ports on the side of the unit.
The S6373 is not light with a shipping weight of 222 pounds. It is only 3.5” inches deep though making it a very thin television with a very large screen. Samsung also talks of their Power Save system that detects changes in ambient light with the use of a blue eye detector, and adjusts the brightness level accordingly. This produces only the power consumption that is absolutely needed, and no more. This model is a viable choice if you are considering a very large screen monitor as part of your Home Theater system. The true test of all of Samsung’s claims on picture perfecting technology is getting in front of one and turning it on.
